'The Predictive Nature of Personality and Mindfulness on Instances of Musical Chills (Frisson)'
You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part.
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether established correlates of musical chills (frisson) have predictive or additive qualities when examined together.
Why have I been chosen?
You have been chosen to take part in this study because you area person who enjoys music, who may or may not have experienced musical chills. Ideally, you have access to earphones or headphones to be used while taking part, but this is not essential.
Do I have to take part?
No. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you will be given this information sheet to keep and be asked to sign a consent form. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time before submitting your data, without giving reason.
What will happen to me if I take part?
This study involves taking measurements of personality and mindfulness in order to examine whether these factors have an impact on the degree to which you experience musical chills. This includes completing questionnaires relating to your personality, how mindful you are, and also measuring your sensitivity to musical chills through a questionnaire and playing some music. This should take approximately 30 minutes.
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
There are no possible disadvantages to taking part in this study.
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
There are no direct advantages of taking part in this study, other than the beneficial effects from listening to music you enjoy.

Your personal data will be processed so long as it is required for the research project. The personal data you provide will be anonymised through coding, and we will endeavour to minimise the processing of personal data wherever possible.

The only recipients of your data will be myself and my supervisor.
What will happen to the results of the research study?
Results from this research will be used in my final year dissertation project. Results may also be disseminated among public and scientific communities through presentation at a BPS conference later in the year, if deemed suitable.
